2025 ALF Seaplane Scholarship Winners Announced!

From the New England Section newsletter:

The ALF Girls Seaplane Scholarships were established by Jim Forbes to honor his late wife, Alice. Alice loved flying with Jim in their seaplane and was a great supporter of women in aviation and especially in The Ninety-Nines. This year, there were five scholarships awarded from a very impressive application pool of 19 applicants. The scholarship provides for all the costs to obtain a seaplane rating.

The winners this year are: Carla Soplantila, Eastern New England; Betsy Smith, Eastern New England; Sara O’Connor, Eastern New England; Maggie Kerns, Connecticut and Yulia Bougouin, Connecticut.

Their training will take place with Central Maine Aviation in Pittsfield, Maine, through Charles Surprenant. The Katahdin Wings Chapter expresses their sincerest thanks to Jim for creating such a unique aviation experience for members of our Section.
